Frequently asked questions
Everything travellers usually ask before buying a Vietnam eSIM. If your question isn't here, get in touch.
- Will my phone work with an eSIM?
- Most phones released from 2019 onwards support eSIM: iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S, Note and Z models. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked. To check, look for an EID number under Settings › General › About on iPhone, or Settings › About phone on Android. Phones bought in mainland China generally lack eSIM hardware.
- When does my plan start counting down?
- Validity begins the moment the eSIM first connects to a Vietnamese mobile network — not when you buy it and not when you install it. That's why you can safely install the profile days before you travel.
- How fast do I get my QR code?
- Immediately after payment clears, usually within a couple of minutes. It arrives by email with an install guide. If it hasn't appeared, check your spam folder before contacting us.
- Do I lose my normal phone number?
- No. The eSIM is a second line. Your home SIM stays active for calls, SMS and banking verification codes, while the eSIM handles data in Vietnam. Just make sure your home line's data roaming stays off to avoid charges from your own carrier.
- How good is the coverage?
- Plans run on Viettel, Vietnam's largest network. Coverage is strong in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc, and reaches most rural and mountainous areas including Ha Giang and Sapa.
- Can I share the connection?
- Yes. Hotspot and tethering are included on every plan at no extra cost, so you can connect a laptop, tablet or a travelling companion's phone.
- Can I make phone calls?
- Most plans are data only, which covers WhatsApp, Zalo, Messenger and FaceTime calls. Our unlimited plans also include a local Vietnamese number for regular calls and SMS — useful for booking taxis and restaurants.
- Can I use one eSIM on two phones?
- No. An eSIM profile installs onto a single device and cannot be moved or re-scanned. If two people need data, either buy two eSIMs or share one phone's hotspot.
- What if I run out of data or time?
- Buy another eSIM — installation takes a couple of minutes and the new profile works immediately. We don't currently offer top-ups on an existing profile.
- Can I get a refund?
- If the QR code has not been installed, contact us with your order reference and we'll cancel and refund it. Once a profile has been downloaded to a device it can't be resold, so it isn't refundable.
